Resources

On this page you will find a plethora of resources to help you imagine, plan, and live into a robust and generative Sabbath practice. From books and articles to websites and videos to worksheets and practices, everything you need to begin your Sabbath practice is right here.

The Sabbath is calling. Come on in!

Practicing Sabbath isn’t easy. Making room for Sabbath in our over-scheduled lives can feel like stuffing an eleventh passenger into an eight-passenger van. This is because Sabbath is an act of resistance in a culture of relentless productivity, achievement, and consumption. An irony of contemporary Sabbath practice is that rest is really hard work.

But you are not alone. There is a groundswell of Sabbath-seekers and Sabbath-thinkers who are inviting anyone who will listen to slow down and pay attention, to listen more carefully to your life, to rediscover your delights, and reconnect with your truest self.

You will find resources here that will help you on that journey. Most of them have been written or created by me and my wife, Mariah. But I also include links to other books, articles, videos, websites, and practices developed by others that will help guide you along the Sabbath way.

Give yourself some time to snoop around the site. Check out the Practices page, which includes, among other things, a free downloadable PDF you can use to plan a Sabbath experience, whether you’re doing so alone or with others (I highly recommend practicing in community, if you can). There are also links to websites and books from folks I respect in the “On the Web” page. Come back often as I will update this page periodically with new practices and links to other great content.
